Work has begun on a huge new student accommodation complex in Stoke-on-Trent that will result in 939 bedrooms being built.

The old teaching block at the rear of Stoke-on-Trent College's Cauldon campus has been targeted by vandals and arsonists since lying vacant.

However, demolition work at a former college building has now started, with the finished scheme due to also feature a cafe, bistro, shop, gym and cinema.

Planning permission was granted to JEDS Investments in 2018 and the development will be just a short distance away from Staffordshire University's College Road facilities.

Stoke-on-Trent College will continue to use the rest of the Cauldon campus, which has undergone a number of building improvements in recent years.
